Already a norm in Asia, where carriers transport groceries from supermarkets to customers' doorsteps, the UK is now witnessing retail titan Co-op diving into the delivery realm through a strategic partnership with Uber Direct. This move blurs the lines between traditional supermarkets and delivery services. The looming question is whether this trend will extend to Europe. Will we see a convergence, with supermarkets offering fast delivery services like Co-op with Uber, or will delivery companies like Getir and Delivery hero who are operating from their own grocery hubs stay the only players in this new field.

Uber Eats: How Grocery Delivery Is ChangingUber Technologies revealed last month that the revenue for its delivery business, which is led by the Uber Eats platform, increased by 29% in the first quarter of its fiscal year (at constant currency), to $3.09 billion (€2.84 billion). As Uber Eats has grown, it has become a valuable ally for a variety of retail businesses. For instance, in the first few months of this year, it signed partnerships with PetSmart in the US, Australian grocery chain Coles, Mexican pharmacy chain Benavides, and the Liquor Control Board of Ontario in Canada. Uber Eats' rise to prominence was initially fueled by the HoReCa channel. The group also has several sizable partners throughout Europe. The company has a number of sizable partners in Europe as well. In April, it announced that it was strengthening its relationship with French retailer Carrefour. Other partners include Portugal's Continente, Groupe Casino, and Tesco.Matthew Price, general manager, UK, Ireland & Northern Europe, Uber Eats, said that the rise of "non-linear" shopping journeys and the significance of partnerships in understanding the needs of today's consumers are crucial.#business #partnerships #ubereats

Getir need Uber to help them sell products out of their own dark stores! There was a time when Quick Commerce Operators were heralded as 'the future of retail', 'pioneers' and 'visionaries'. But when the last Quick Commerce Operator turns to a Quick Commerce Aggregator to help it drive traffic and sales, surely you have to admit that the writing is on the wall? This feels like a last ditch attempt to keep the dream alive. What the Americans call a 'Hail Mary Play'. But Getir can't cut their way, raise their way or partner their way out of a bad business model and an unsustainable burn-rate.How much longer will this saga drag on?#quickcommerce #digitalcommerce #ecommerce #cpg #fmcg #retailAll views are my own.

🚀 Current news, Rapid insights: Rapid Delivery services transform challenges into opportunities✋ As of July 2023, French dark stores can no longer be classified as shops, but only as warehouses, causing Getir and Gorillas to exit the market.💥 Barcelona challenges dark stores in a bid to preserve neighbourhood character💡 Deliveroo is innovating its rapid grocery business with a unique dark store concept in Central London, named Deliveroo HOP. It allows non-app users to order groceries through a digital kiosk at the reception area.SO WHAT? 🤔 The rapid delivery sector is proving its resilience by turning challenges into opportunities, as proven by Deliveroo. Other rapid delivery services are partnering with retailers to enhance distribution networks, and planning to establish dark stores in better-suited vacant spaces outside the city centre. Another potential outcome of the changed industry rules is sales shifting from quick commerce players towards aggregators. As legal challenges reshape the landscape, the industry is rewriting the rules, embracing innovation, and ensuring that convenience and regulations go hand in hand.

It stands to reason that there's major growth in prospect for online grocery (and hybrid variants) - the burning question, following burnout of the 15-minute model, is how to get more (deliveries to doorstep) from less (congestion and carbon emissions).Essentially the sector needs non-polluting delivery steeds (ie pedalecs and electric 2/3-wheelers) which are small and nimble (don't get stuck in traffic) but which can carry more than a rider with bag-on-back. This is the way to deliver more groceries (and value) per trip, with less noise, less miles, less riders; more sustainable and more DPH (drops per hour)#AAcargo #morefromless#QuieterFasterGreenerCheaper and #smarter

🚀 DoorDash aims to expand Grocerydelivery this year:"The two largest areas of investment are expansion and penetration outside of the U.S., as well as the same outside of restaurants," DoorDash CEO Tony Xu Tony Xu said in an interview with the Financial Times.DoorDash is looking to invest in not only expending overseas but also in its non-restaurant businesses mainly grocery delivery, which has overtaken the growth of its core restaurant delivery business.“Grocery is the largest retail category and represents a $1.1 trillion industry in the United States alone,” said Instacart CEO Fidji Simo. “But only 12 percent of grocery sales are made online today. As even more people shop online, online penetration could double or more over time.”DoorDash’s 3 year old grocery delivery doubled in gross order value in the third quarter last year. Small orders have taken up an increasing share of overall online grocery purchases since the pandemic, according to data compiled by research firm YipitData , which analyzes customer email receipts. DoorDash reports fourth-quarter results next week.@pressherald@emarketerforcast#ecommerce #grocerydelivery #fooddelivery #doordash #europe
