Cure calluses on hands with cider vinegar (2024)

Raw cider vinegar can gently and painlessly remove calluses from hands, fingers, toes and feet.

Calluses are simply a thickening of the skin and most people have one somewhere. They are often caused by layers of skin building up because of pressure caused by rubbing or repetitive actions – walking in tight shoes or using manual tools repetitively for example – but they can also be congenital.

I have congenital calluses which grow on the knuckles of the first two fingers on both of my hands and I have shown them in the photographs on this page.

Raw Cider Vinegar naturally removes calluses

You can easily identify calluses by just looking at them. The thickened skin areas may turn gray or yellow and they are often much less sensitive when touched than normal areas. They are not often painful but they can cause irritation and can be easily removed by repeatedly applying cider vinegar.

The natural acid content of apple cider vinegar will gently soften the hardened layers of skin and in time they will disappear. You can just dab cider vinegar onto the affected area at bed time and leave it to dry. The acid will soften the hard skin and the vinegar will also correct the balance of the epidermal pH; this will help the skin to heal itself.

Natural Cider Vinegar soak

Alternatively, you can make a bath of half vinegar and half water and soak the affected area for about half an hour. Leave the area to dry naturally when removed from the soak and don't wash the vinegar off.

Repeat the procedure as often as possible and over a couple of months the callus will naturally disappear. Try not to scratch the area or pull at dry skin on the callus because this may result in infection. The antimicrobial nature of the vinegar will help to clean the callus naturally.
