What is the best answer choice to guess on the SAT? ›

Guess any letter for any question. It doesn't matter if you guess A,B,A,B or A,A,A,A or any variation. Your expected number of correct answers are equal—actually, you'll actually do sliiightly better by guessing randomly on every question.

Generally speaking, you can miss 1-2 questions on each section and still get a perfect 1600. How many questions you can miss on each section and still hit your target score will depend on your exam's difficulty level and how raw scores convert into scaled scores for that particular test.

There is no most common answer on the SAT.

Studying smartly and playing to your strengths will help you get 1500+ on your SAT. For instance, you need at least 55 out of 58 questions correct in the Maths section, 41 out of 44 in the Writing & Language section, and 48 out of 52 in the Reading section to score a 1500+ on your SAT.

I'm sure you've heard this at some point “if you don't know the answer, always guess C. because it's the most common correct option”. That's just a myth, and generally there are no most common answers on multiple choice tests.

On all questions, there's no penalty for guessing: if you're not sure of the answer, it's better to guess than leave the response blank.

With the national average SAT score always hovering near 1000 (purposefully), 800 falls short of that average and leaves few college options.

Is 900 a good SAT score? A “good” SAT score is one that makes you a competitive candidate at a majority of colleges, including your ideal college. A 900 doesn't give you as many college options as we'd normally like students to have, so raising your score closer to that national average (1150-1100) is encouraged.

The previous version of the SAT had what's known as a “guessing penalty,” meaning points were deducted for any incorrect answer. However, on the tests you'll take today you do not lose any points for wrong answers, so you should bubble in a response to every question.

What is the hardest section on the SAT? ›

Reading comprehension is often considered the most difficult section of the SAT for students to improve their scores.

On the Digital SAT, the lowest possible score is a 400: 200 on Reading and Writing and 200 on Math.

That conversion chart is different every test date and scaled to other students who took the test. This means there could potentially be a bit of wiggle room, allowing you to miss a few questions and still get a perfect 1600.

A 940 SAT score is below the national average, which is around 1060. While it may not be considered competitive at more selective colleges, it could still be acceptable at some less-selective colleges and universities.

The average SAT score is a 1040, so a 1200 is above average. A 1200 SAT score is between the 71st and 80th percentile of test takers, meaning that you scored above 71-80% of other students. A score of 1200 opens a wide range of college options, assuming you have comparable grades (mostly A's and B's).

Myth 2: C is the best guess letter and is right more often than any other letter. C or H are right (and wrong) as often as any other answer choice. The only guess letter you don't want to use when you are completely guessing is E or K because they only show up on the math test.

However, the most general assumption is often that 'C' is the correct answer, due to which it can be called the most popular multiple choice answer.
