How to start The Final Trial quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley
To start the quest The Final Trial, you must have a friendship level of 10 with Merlin. So, you must befriend Merlin as quickly as possible to upgrade your watering can in Dreamlight Valley. After reaching a level 10 friendship with Merlin, find and speak to him to start The Final Trial quest.

To increase your friendship level quickly, ensure you gift Merlin his favorite gifts every day, serve him in the restaurant, and bring him with you as you perform his designated role (mining, harvesting, digging, foraging, or fishing).
The Final Trial quest walkthrough in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Once you’ve started The Final Trial quest, Merlin will ask you to gather resources to upgrade your watering can, as this is how you can remove the large purple mushrooms. But before you can clear these large mushroom patches, you must complete four core tasks.
- Craft five Purified Night Shards and have WALL-E crush them.
- Gather the ingredients in Merlin’s book: 25 Mushrooms, Falling Water, and Ice Heart.
- Craft the Royal Watering Can Upgrading Ointment and bring it to Merlin—he will apply the upgrade to your watering can.
- Clear a large purple mushroom patch and talk to Merlin to complete this quest.
The first thing you need to do is craft five Purified Night Shards. To do so, you must gather the following items and craft the five Purified Night Shards at any crafting station:
- 25 Night Shards.
- Five Dream Shards.
Once crafting the requested amount of Purified Night Shards, you must find Wall-E, as he will crush them and return them to you.
With the crushed Purifed Night Shards in your inventory, find and talk with Merlin to progress through the quest line.
Merlin will ask you to collect a few items you need to craft the Royal Watering Can Upgrading Ointment. These items are pretty easy to get but can be tricky as they aren’t regular items.
You must find one Falling Water, one Ice Heart, and 25 Mushrooms, which can be gathered by doing the following:
- The Falling Water: This is a unique quest-exclusive item found within the Glade of Trust biome. Players will find it by heading to the bottom of the river that runs through this biome. The water at the bottom of the river is also at the top of where a waterfall begins, and it is here that players will see a special sparkling area they can interact with to receive one Falling Water.
- Ice Heart: You must plant the Ice Heart seed that Merlin gave you. After planting and watering this special seed, the plant will grow, and you will be able to harvest one Ice Heart.
- Mushrooms: These can be found around the Glade of Trust biome, and you can get them from the small mushroom patches. Twenty-five Mushrooms is a decent amount to gather, so you need to be patient and wait for more to respawn—it can take up to one hour for more to reappear.
Once you’ve collected these materials, you can head to any crafting station to craft the special “Royal Watering Can upgrading ointment.”
Return to Merlin with this enchantment, and he will then permanently apply it to your watering can so that you can always remove any giant purple mushrooms that pop up. The final step of this quest is to use your newly upgraded watering can to clear the large mushrooms blocking the bridge in the Glade of Trust biome.
After doing so, return to Merlin, and he will gift you a fabulously large wizard hat for maximizing your friendship with him and completing The Final Trial quest.
