Recently I turned 40 and also learnt it is a milestone! I do feel a little different but with all the hype from family and friends I was expecting a magical moment.
And just like that like as if my friend read my mind, she sent me a text on my birthday wishing me Happy Birthday and a beautiful message:
Why is turning 40 so special?
You worry less about what others think of you. You learn to say no to people and commitments. By the time you turn 40, you start to do what you want and what works for you and your family; the only opinions that truly matter are your own.
That kept me thinking, what does 40 mean to me? Did all that make sense? Somehow it did and it made me question what other life lessons did I pick up along the way.
Here are some of them I would like to mention and may be you can add in yours or tell me if anyone of these you also learnt.
- We all have our own path, our view of the world is different to others, so don’t judge your life or compare yours to other’s life, you sow your seeds and see growth at your own pace and path.
- Life will give you situations , people and circ*mstances that you can handle, you just trust the process and believe in yourself that no matter what, you can do it.
- If you spend on things you don’t need, you have to sell the things that you need.
- Forgiveness and letting go is for you , not for the situation or the other person who wronged you.
- Self care is showing yourself the love and respect and that will be infectious for others to follow you and love and respect you more.
- Gratitude is bringing in light to your mundane life, it brightens everything.
- Happiness is whatever you experience in this moment, not something that should have happened or yet to come.
- Learning keeps you going and growing. Find what interests you and be curious to know more on it.
- Be kind to yourself and compassionate to others.
- Do your best and forget the rest!
