Mardi Gras in Knoxville! 10 events to celebrate Fat Tuesday with food, fun and beads (2024)

Get out those colorful beads and get ready to party for Mardi Gras. Fat Tuesday is Feb. 13, but you don’t have to fly all the way to New Orleans just to get in on all the fun.

New Orleans, Louisiana, has been the primary hub for the festival, donning its best green, purple and gold for hundreds of years. But there are plenty of ways to celebrate with friends, even the four-legged kind, right here in Knoxville.

Here are 10 events throughout the end of February and into March packed with color, fun and king cake in honor of Mardi Gras.

Walk-Ons Sports Bistreaux Mardi Gras special

  • When: Feb. 6 and 13
  • Where: 7621 Kingston Pike
  • What is it: Every Tuesday is Fat Tuesday at Walk-Ons Sports, at least until Feb. 13. The restaurant is celebrating the carnival season with a special $5 menu available Feb. 6 and 13. Items include beignet bites served NOLA Style, chicken and sausage gumbo, Louisiana kick wings and signature co*cktail.
  • How much is it: The Mardi Gras menu features $5 specials.

Mardi Gras at Token Game Tavern

  • When: 6 p.m. Feb. 9-13
  • Where: Token Game Tavern, 213 N. Seven Oaks Drive
  • What is it: Token Game Tavern is celebrating Mardi Gras all weekend long with themed decor, drinks, king cake, beads and more! You also can spend Fat Tuesday at Token beginning at 4 p.m. to cap the 2024 celebrations.

Fat Friday Mardi Gras! with Roux Du Bayou

  • When: 6:30 p.m. Feb. 9
  • Where: The Concourse, 4328 N. Broadway
  • What is it: Roux Du Bayou Cajun Band is back at The Concourse for Mardi Gras. Led by Paul Gregoire from Louisiana, Roux du Bayou plays authentic Cajun, zydeco, swamp pop, Mardi Gras music and more. Mardi Gras beads will be available for everyone, and be sure to wear purple, gold and/or lime green.
  • How much is it: Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door

Mardi Gras at Fountain City Social

  • When: 8 p.m. Feb. 9
  • Where: Fountain City Social, 4842 Harvest Mill Way
  • What is it: The 1980s-themed bar is hosting its third annual Mardi Gras karaoke dance party! Get ready to sing and dance the night away and enjoy an evening of fun, music and celebration. And don't forget to wear your best Mardi Gras outfit. A variety of themed co*cktails will be served throughout the event.

Mardi Gras at Alliance Brewing Company

  • When: Noon Feb. 10
  • Where: Alliance Brewing Co., 1130 Sevier Ave.
  • What is it: Unleash the Mardi Gras magic at Alliance with activities for everyone. Activities include making your own beads and masks for kids and adults, king cake sale, a gumbo potluck and a Mardi Gras-themed tie-dye session. Hurricane hard seltzer will be on tap.
  • How much is it: Tie-dye sessions are $20 for a white ABC T-shirt of standard adult sizes. Kids can bring in their own T-shirts to tie-dye for $5.

Mardi Gras bar crawl

  • When: 5-11 p.m. Feb. 10
  • Where: Tern Club (135 S. Gay St.) and various venues
  • What is it: Don your most festive beads and Mardi Gras colors for an epic bar crawl presented by Pub Pioneers. Tern Club is the starting point and digital map will guide on the Mardi Gras escapade.
  • How much is it: Admission starts at $7.84 as of Feb. 5. Tickets are available pubpioneers.com/city/knoxville.

Mardi Gras party and fundraiser at Birdhouse Neighborhood Center

  • When: 7-11 p.m. Feb. 10
  • Where: Birdhouse Neighborhood Center, 800 N. Fourth Ave.
  • What is it: The Fourth & Gill neighborhood is hosting a fundraising party for and at the Birdhouse Neighborhood Center with live New Orleans music, Cajun food catered by The Bistro and king cakes by Silver Queen Kitchen. Dancing, raffles and more Mardi Gras fun will be happening throughout the night.
  • How much is it: Tickets are $30 if pre-ordered or $35 at the door.

19th Epilepsy Foundation Mardi Gras Gala

  • When: 5:30-8:30 p.m. Feb. 13
  • Where: Crowne Plaza Hotel, 401 W. Summit Hill Drive
  • What is it: The Epilepsy Foundation in East Tennessee hosts the 19th Mardi Gras gala. The night of fun features a live band and a silent auction. All proceeds go to foundation programming.Persons with epilepsy will receive a free event T-shirt.
  • How much is it: Tickets are $50 per person. People with epilepsy get in free.

Last Days of Autumn Brewing Mardi Gras Party

  • When: 6-10 p.m. Feb. 13
  • Where: Last Days of Autumn Brewing, 808 E. Magnolia Ave.
  • What is it: The Mardi Gras party will have music by Ray Beltran and Blue Max. There will be food and beer specials. New this year is a big party tent with a second bar to keep the beer and music flowing.
  • How much is it: It's free to attend with food and drinks priced accordingly.

Mardi Growl

  • When: 11 a.m.-4 p.m. March 2
  • Where: The pet parade begins in the Old City and travels on foot to World’s Fair Park.
  • What is it: The 17th annual Mardi Growl hosted by Young-Williams Animal Center is a pet-focused festival themed around Mardi Gras. It starts with a pet parade and transitions to a pet festival with music, food, games and more.
  • How much is it: It's free to attend, but costs $15 to register your pet in advance to be in the parade (or $20 day of).
