  9. Ndidi decision to stay eases headache for Cooperpublished at 17:08 12 July

Wilfred Ndidi's decision to stay at Leicester removes what could have been a large headache for boss Steve Cooper.

There was a degree of expectation, certainly during the course of last season, the midfielder would leave after seven-and-a-half regardless of promotion.

If he can rediscover the form that he showed in his early days at the King Power Stadium where he was their midfield enforcer, it is a coup.

It stops Cooper from searching for a potentially expensive replacement just five weeks before the start of the season, especially having lost Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea already this month.

Cooper's squad is slowly coming together after the arrivals of Michael Goulding from Chelsea, Caleb Okoli from Atalanta and Bobby Decordova-Reid's arrival on a free from Fulham.

Interest in Juve's Matias Soule could also pick up with Juventus ready to sell the 21-year-old Argentine, although a price tag that could exceed €30m might prove prohibitive for the Foxes.

Cooper has given everyone a blank slate and those who are in form will be the ones who will play. Ndidi should be one of his key lieutenants next season.

Midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has signed a new three-year deal at Leicester City.

The Nigeria international had been linked with a move away from King Power Stadium, despite the Foxes' promotion back to the Premier League.

But he has agreed terms until 2027 to end speculation over his future, after his previous contract expired last month.

Ndidi has made 273 appearances for Leicester since joining from Belgian side Genk in January 2017, scoring 17 goals and registering 17 assists along the way.

The 27-year-old helped the club win the FA Cup and Community Shield in 2021, while he was also key in their Championship title win last season as the Foxes returned to the top flight at the first time of asking.

"I feel great, I feel excited, I feel at home," Ndidi told the club website. "That is the most important thing. I feel really happy to continue with the club.

"My family is settled here and when everyone back home says 'Ndidi', they say 'Leicester' also"

Manchester City defender Sergio Gomez has signed for La Liga side Real Sociedad in a deal worth 10m euros (£8.4m).

The 23-year-old Spaniard has struggled for first-team football since arriving for £11m in 2022, making just 18 Premier League appearances.

City have a 30% sell-on clause in the transfer, which sees Gomez leave City two years into his original four-year contract.

The left-back said he recognises it is "time to leave", adding: "Being part of such a talented, ambitious and successful squad was a true honour and winning a host of major trophies, including the Treble, is something I will never forget and will always look back fondly on.

"I am excited for this new adventure but I wish Pep Guardiola and the players every success in the future."

Wolverhampton Wanderers have rejected a £21m bid from Marseille for striker Hwang Hee-chan.

The Ligue 1 side, managed by former Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi, have been told the South Korea international is not for sale.

Marseille are looking for a new striker after selling Vitinha to Genoa and Iliman Ndiaye to Everton.

Hwang moved to Molineux from RB Leipzig, initially on loan, in 2021 and has scored 22 goals in 94 appearances, including 13 last season.

Wolves have already boosted their forward line after signing striker Jorgen Strand Larsen from Celta Vigo on an initial loan deal, before an expected £23m transfer once certain clauses are triggered during the season.

Gary O'Neil's side are under no pressure to sell their stars after captain Max Kilman's £40m departure to West Ham earlier this month.

They would like to move on Fabio Silva and Goncalo Guedes, who were on loan at Rangers and Villarreal respectively last season.

The pair have not travelled to Marbella with the squad for pre-season training.

Tottenham forward Troy Parrott will have a medical at AZ Alkmaar on Friday after agreeing to leave his boyhood club.

The 22-year-old is set to move to the Netherlands for £6.7m and sign a long-term deal with the Eredivisie club.

Spurs will look to invest in a new striker to help manager Ange Postecoglou improve the squad.

Sevilla are now confident they have secured Albert Sambi Lokonga on an initial loan deal from Arsenal with an option to buy.

The 24-year-old midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Luton Town, is expected to complete a medical with the Spanish club this weekend.

Another player who looks to be on his way out of Emirates Stadium is Nuno Tavares, with the 24-year-old left-back expected to join Italian side Lazio.

  18. Philogene joins Hull squad in Turkey published at 17:40 11 July

Aston Villa and Ipswich target Jaden Philogene has joined his Hull team-mates on their pre-season trip to Turkey.

The 22-year-old was initially left behind by the Tigers after Villa matched Town's £18m offer earlier this week.

But the England Under-21 international has now re-joined the squad at their training base Riva, just north of Istanbul.

Villa sold the 22-year-old to the Tigers last September but retained a buy-back option under certain conditions.

It is understood Villa inserted a clause meaning they would have three days to match any bid once a deal had been agreed.

Newly promoted Ipswich had their £18m offer accepted by Hull and Villa moved to bring Philogene back to Villa Park after less than a year away.

He came through the academy at Villa and made just six appearances before moving to the Tigers.

  22. 'A Villa vanity project that failed'published at 17:18 10 July

Philippe Coutinho was a vanity project for Aston Villa.

Seen as a coup at the time of his January 2022 loan, Barcelona's £142m record signing never delivered.

Steven Gerrard, his former Liverpool team-mate and then Villa boss, hailed him as a "brilliant signing for the club" while Christian Purslow, chief executive at the time, announced Coutinho's permanent move with fanfare at the club's end-of-season dinner in 2022 and the pair embraced on stage.

A dramatic entrance, an assist and a goal on his debut in the 2-2 draw with Manchester United in January 2022, was supposed to herald the perfect relationship. Coutinho was expected to recapture the form that made him one of the Premier League's best at Liverpool - and Villa would rise up the table.

However, they got a shadow of the player who lit up Anfield and it was he who was hauled off after 65 minutes against League Two Stevenage when Villa were dumped out of the FA Cup in 2023.

Ultimately, the Brazil international was a bump in the road on what has become a successful journey to the Champions League for Villa.

They have achieve their goals and progressed without him, which says much for the planning of Monchi, Villa's president of football operations and the drive and organisation of boss Unai Emery, along with their structured recruitment.

His arrival was a statement and helped raise the club's profile and, regardless of the outcome, his signing on reputation represented where Villa wanted to be, rather than where they were at the time.
