https://lnkd.in/eXuYtnMaObvious to most in this community, this report's key findings are present truths stripped bare and presented to readers devoid of the usual roundaboutation. "-The nature of warfare has evolved since the Cold War, and it has become increasingly clear that the U.S. defense strategy and posture are insolvent.-The U.S. defense strategy has been predicated on U.S. military forces that were superior in all domains to those of any adversary. This superiority is gone. -The United States and its allies no longer have a virtual monopoly on the technologies and capabilities that made them so dominant against adversarial forces.- U.S. and allied forces do not require superiority to defeat aggression by even their most powerful foes. The United States, acting in concert with key allies and partners, can restore credible postures of deterrence against major aggression without having to regain overmatch in any operational domain against China or Russia."

On April 16th, 2024, the U.S. Special Operations Command marks its 37th Anniversary. The once fledgling, disparate organization has grown to more than 70,000 people whose contributions to national security are revered by the American people. USSOCOM develops, and employs, the world's finest Special Operation Forces to conduct global special operations and activities as part of the Joint Force, in concert with the U.S. Government Interagency, Allies, and Partners, to support persistent, networked, and distributed combatant command operations and campaigns against state and non-state actors all to protect and advance U.S. policies and objectives.Their motto - “Sine Pari,” which translates from Latin to “Without Equal”, encapsulates the exceptional capabilities and their unwavering commitment. These elite warriors strive for excellence, standing apart from the ordinary, and dedicating themselves to missions that go beyond the norm.We stand and salute you today – both seen and unseen warriors. We recognize your tireless efforts; and we thank each one of you. There is no question, you are “Without Equal”.#SpecialOperations #SOCOM #IndustryPartner #SecurityProfessional #FSOSupport #USSOCOM #usspecialoperationscommand #anniversary #nationalsecurity

In this new era of strategic competition, the United States needs to maintain its technical edge and strategic advantage over adversaries. Our latest Intelligence After Next paper details data, policy, and strategic review recommendations that will help the U.S. military compete in the gray zone, below the level of armed conflict—where adversaries seek to accumulate greater power and influence without resorting to war. https://lnkd.in/e6w9eviP

Wednesday, September 27th, Enjoy "Lessons in Leadership," a discussion lead by Thom Shanker regarding his new book entitled "Age of Danger: Keeping America Safe in an Era of New Superpowers, New Weapons, and New Threats." Shanker argues that the United States must create an industrial-grade, life-saving machine out of a system that, for too long, was focused only on deterring adversaries and carrying out global military operations, and issues a call to expand the definition of national security beyond traditional problems that could be met with bullets and bombs.Link Below!⭐ ⏬ https://bit.ly/3PnRIkj

Hybrid threats: old wine in new bottles?Dr Andreas Liaropoulos, Associate Professor in Strategic and Security Studies, University of PiraeusDate: November 16thTime: 14:00 to 16:00Location: (Cookworthy) CKY 408The presentation will review the hybrid concept and discuss the conceptual ambiguity around the hybrid terminology (hybrid warfare/threats, etc). Hybrid is a popular term, but the fact that it serves as an umbrella term that encompasses and combines among others, information operations, political warfare, sabotage, economic coercion, cyber-attacks and conventional military means, raises concerns about the conceptual utility and operational value of this term. The presentation will focus on how hybrid is (mis)understood within the Western military/security community.

🔊"The U.S. defense strategy and posture have become #insolvent." That 🎇startling🎇 line comes from a new report from the highly influential RAND Corporation, entitled, "Inflection Point: How to Reverse the Erosion of U.S. and Allied Military Power and Influence".It reaches similar conclusions to an earlier essay from the equally influential Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), called The U.S. Defense Industrial Base Is Not Prepared for a Possible Conflict with China(both RAND and CSIS were in the top 🔟 of University of Pennsylvania's latest ranking of the world's most influential think tanks - governments do listen to them). In Taiwan war games, the US runs out of key munitions alarmingly fast. And a number of outlets suggest that the best tactical warships in the world now belong to China (the Type 055) not the US.💡 While RAND doesn't necessarily advocate for a bigger military, it does conclude that it needs a more innovative and better tooled one (plus more spending from the US's NATO allies). ➡ #investors take note. Taking US defence spending as a % of #GDP back to #coldwar levels would mean an extra $250-500bn of spending a year. Are #defenceindustry #stockprices discounting this?#investmentmanagement #investmentstrategy #investmentinsights #assetallocation

The DoD faces a pacing challenge from China's rapid military modernization, and innovation is key for America to maintain its edge. Meaningful change requires systematically removing barriers in the defense innovation ecosystem and bringing together the right ingredients: an operational need, mature scalable technology, risk-taking, and people to propel it forward.Read Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks' Keynote Address on the "Urgency to Innovate" to learn more about her approach to maintaining our nation's competitiveness in the global arena. https://lnkd.in/g_8aEFzb

Great conversation highlighted by The Wall Street Journal on the lack of #defense industrial base capacity and urgent need to find a solution. A critical solution not mentioned: getting more out of the "bottleneck" assets we already have, which often sit idle much more than they run. Unlocking dormant capacity is a better, cheaper, faster way to get the U.S.. military what they need. Here's how: https://bit.ly/3WK3iJL.
