Este estudo tem como base a pesquisa do tipo exploratória, com fonte de dados secundários obtidos em publicações, livros, periódicos, revistas sobre o tema em questão e bem como materiais disponibilizados na Internet.

Segundo Malhotra (2000), “a pesquisa exploratória tem como objetivo ajudar a compreender o problema enfrentado pelo pesquisador ou obter dados adicionais antes de obter uma abordagem”.

Ainda de acordo com Malhotra (2000), “a pesquisa descritiva, ao contrário da exploratória é marcada por um enunciado claro do problema, por hipóteses específicas e pela necessidade detalhada de informações” (MALHOTRA, 2000).

A partir da pesquisa exploratória e descritiva, foi necessária uma análise dos dados coletados, fazendo-se uso da pesquisa qualitativa, que é uma metodologia que, segundo Malhotra (2000), “proporciona melhor visão e compreensão do contexto do problema”.

Outra fonte de informação foi através da pesquisa documental, tendo como fonte documentos e livros. Segundo Lakatos e Marconi (1982), “documentos são todos os materiais escritos que podem servir como fonte de informação para a pesquisa científica e que ainda não foram elaborados”.

Segundo Lakatos e Marconi (1982), “a observação direta pode ser realizada através das técnicas de entrevista e observação”. Neste estudo de caso não foram realizadas entrevistas, apenas observação.

A observação é uma técnica de coleta de dados para conseguir informações e utiliza os sentidos na obtenção de determinados aspectos da realidade. Não consiste apenas em ver e ouvir, mas também em examinar fatos e fenômenos que se deseja estudar.

“A observação pode ser classificada segundo o número de observações, podendo ser individual ou em equipe.” (LAKATOS e MARCONI, 1982). Na observação individual, utilizada neste estudo de caso, o pesquisador registra o fenômeno tal como ele ocorre, porém, como desvantagem, não se tem a neutralidade do pesquisador, necessária em toda pesquisa.
