Storage in Poland for fast deliveries

As an e-commerce retailer, if you focus on your customers, you are already well on the way. That is the open secret of Amazon’s success. To provide the best possible service to customers, fast delivery times for orders or returns are essential. This is the only way to ensure that goods arrive at the customer the very next day using Amazon Prime.

To be able to guarantee these fast delivery times, short delivery routes are a prerequisite. That is why Amazon sets up warehouses in every country where they sell their goods. The same applies accordingly to our neighbouring country Poland.

Fulfillment in the Amazon warehouse

In short, the Amazon warehouses are responsible for the storage, dispatch and return of goods. Hundreds to thousands of people work here in five different areas to ensure customer satisfaction:

  • Unpacking and checking incoming goods
  • Storage of goods
  • Recording the location in the system
  • Putting together shipments
  • Shipping

In addition to logistics, accounting and payment processing are also part of fulfillment. Amazon combines the services in the so-called Fulfillment by Amazon to help retailers with the implementation.

Working method in the Amazon warehouses in Poland

But what happens in detail in the warehouses when an order is received? At that moment, Amazon digitally transfers the information to the responsible warehouse. Here, a so-called picker receives the order and instructions as to which goods he has to collect from the shelves. So that he doesn’t have to run several times, he always takes care of several orders at once. The software tells him which route is the most efficient, so he can save time. He places the goods from each order in different containers.

In the next step, these containers receive the packers. They in turn now pack the goods of the individual orders and automatically address the finished package by means of the appropriate software. In the last step, the packages are transported to the trucks via conveyor belts.

In addition to the pickers, the Amazon warehouses also have the Stower. Unlike the pickers, they don’t take care of the dispatch of goods, but the return shipment. If a customer returns his goods, the Stower has to put them back on an empty shelf. His handheld scanner tells him which one is the closest. The software stores the information so that in the future the picker knows where it is.
