Usually, we celebrate the first few years of life; yet, as we age, birthdays are not acknowledged as important anymore or are often a topic that is not discussed.

My birthday is a special occasion for me, falling amid the holidays on December 29. I always try to make it memorable. I never had birthday parties with my friends when I was a kid; instead, I only had them with family. I looked forward to the time I could celebrate the way I wanted to celebrate them.

After I got married at 18 years old, I started celebrating my birthday. My 19th birthday, the first one I had a party for, was a milestone. I was married, had a home, and had a baby on the way.
