Is the world count legit? ›

All the data used on TheWorldCounts is sourced from a large number of organisations, research institutions, news services etc. Our aim is to mainly use data from the world's most reputable organisations.

TheWorldCounts is based in Copenhagen, Denmark. The site is being run and continuously updated by Esben Larsen and Karsten Bjerring Olsen. We work on bringing you the latest and most accurate live statistics on the state of the planet.

8.1 Billion (current)

The term "World Population" refers to the human population (the total number of humans currently living) of the world.

Given a current global population of about 8 billion, the estimated 117 billion total births means that those alive in 2022 represent nearly 7% of the total number of people who have ever lived (see Table 2). Because we have existed on Earth for approximately 200,000 years, that's actually a fairly large percentage.

World Population:

reached 8 billion on November 15, 2022 according to the latest United Nations estimates.

Every year we extract almost 90 billion tons of biomass, fossil energy, metal and minerals from the earth - more than 11 tons for every single person on the planet.

The worlds population is about 7.8 billion people. So 10 % is 780 million people and 1 % is 78 Million people. Times two is 156 million people.

However, it is not more than the total number of people who have lived and died before us. Demographers from the Population Reference Bureau have estimated the total number of people who have ever lived to be around 117bn. That means, those alive today make up around 7% (or 1 in 14) of people who have ever lived.

With this context and timeframe in mind, the demographers estimate that 109 billion people have lived and died over the course of 192,000 years. If we add the number of people alive today, we get 117 billion humans that have ever lived.

The world's population is expected to increase by nearly 2 billion persons in the next 30 years, from the current 8 billion to 9.7 billion in 2050 and could peak at nearly 10.4 billion in the mid-2080s.

Depending on the projection of the world population in the forthcoming centuries, estimates may vary, but the argument states that it is unlikely that more than 1.2 trillion humans will ever live.
