Amazon will close two Maryland warehouses that employ 353 workers. The sites closing are in Hanover and Essex, but the workers can transfer.

MARYLAND — Amazon recently announced that it will close two warehouses in Maryland that employ a combined 353 workers. An Amazon spokesperson told WMAR-2 News that the employees can transfer to other locations within the company.
The plants shutting down are in Hanover and Essex.
The company unveiled the closures last Friday, posting the legally required alerts in the Maryland Department of Labor's Work Adjustment and Retraining Notification system.

Both closures take effect on Oct. 25.
The Hanover site, located at 7458 New Ridge Road, has 190 workers. The Essex facility, situated at 8411 Kelso Drive, has 163.

"We regularly look at how we can improve the experience for our employees, partners, drivers, and customers, and that includes upgrading our facilities," Amazon spokesperson Alisa Carroll told WMAR. "As part of that effort, we’ll be closing our delivery stations in Hanover and Essex and offering all employees the opportunity to transfer to several different delivery stations close by. These facilities provide upgraded amenities including onsite parking and breakrooms with Canteen vending."
