Jollibee vs McDonald's.The Philippines may be the only country wherein a local brand outsells Mcdonald's.Jollibee has more sales than McDonald's in the Philippines. In 2022, Jollibee had sales of approximately 605M U.S. dollars, while McDonald's had sales of about 348M U.S. dollars. There are many possible reasons why Jollibee sells better than McDonald's in the Philippines, but some of the most common ones are: • Jollibee adapts to the local tastes preferences of the Filipino consumers, while McDonald's follows a more standardized global menu. • Jollibee builds a strong emotional connection with the Filipino consumers, while McDonald's relies more on functional benefits and convenience. • Jollibee has a wider and deeper market penetration than McDonald's in the Philippines, especially in the rural and provincial areas. Jollibee has more than 1,000 outlets in the Philippines, compared to McDonald's 600 outlets.So... will it be Chicken Joy or McDonald's Chicken.

I would say that what Jollibee is to McDonald's in the Philippines is similar to how Tim Horton's is to Starbucks in Canada...You see more Tim Horton's than Starbucks...

Pricing Strategy - A Case of McDonald'sMcDonald's recently introduced color-changing cups in Singapore, creating a buzz among consumers (myself included). What caught my attention was the unusual pricing of $22 to qualify for the free cup, deviating from traditional pricing strategies of round pricing (such as $25 or $20). Upon exploring the McDonald's app, I realized that the pricing was strategically set to encourage customers to purchase 2 value meals + 1 side to qualify for the promotion, showcasing an effective upselling tactic. In addition to this, McDonald's employs other pricing strategies such as cross-selling and creating a sense of urgency through the scarcity effect. The company also utilizes low-cost pricing and bundling pricing strategies to stimulate demand and enhance profitability. In addition to the mentioned strategies, McDonald's has been investing in technology tools to understand and set pricing levels that consumers will accept, thereby personalizing its messaging and enhancing its value proposition. This approach has allowed the company to limit customer resistance and evolve its pricing strategy in the face of significant inflation.Furthermore, McDonald's pricing strategy involves price bundling combined with psychological pricing, offering meals and product bundles at a discount and using prices that appear more affordable, such as ending with awkward numbers. The company also relies on a broader product mix and accessibility to attract and retain customers.Overall, McDonald's employs a combination of innovative pricing strategies, technological investments, and a focus on customer value to enhance its pricing approach and maintain its competitive edge in the market.#pricing #mcdonalds #strategy

    Ries Strategy Positioning Partner

McDonald's Future!Over the past nine years, McDonald's has witnessed an impressive transformation. Between 2014 and 2022, they strategically reduced their advertising spending by an average of 7.7% annually. Despite this, their company's sales experienced a marginal decline of 1.7% per year during the same period. However, their profits have soared, showing a remarkable growth rate of 5.6% per year!Throughout this period, the average sales per McDonald's restaurant remained steadfast, reaching a remarkable $610,000 per year globally. In line with their commitment to progress, they have expanded their restaurant network by 1.3% each year. But,As a mature organization, McDonald's growth potential lies not in expanding their sales but in maximizing their profits. They have taken proactive measures to reduce advertising costs, but McDonald’s should also reduce its menu options and reduce the number of its consumer promotions. and then set up their new brands which could go through the same cycle of (a) startup, (b) accelerated growth and (c) maturity. Are you facing challenges with your company's stagnant sales?Let's connect and explore solutions together. My colleagues, sitting in the next bay, ordered from Wow! Momo Someone threw away this flyer, which was inside the parcel, nearby my deskWhen I looked at it, I started craving for a Domino's pizza, and ordered it eventually(It says “next to dominos” in the address part)Here, WowMomo has recalled Dominos in my mind by placing its name on the flyer. Usually, in most of the similar cases, receiver of this flyer would have already tried WowMomo, it can easily trigger a recall of its competitor (of the FnB sector)This can lead to sales cannibalisationShould a marketing professional be conscious about using brand keywords of other brands which operate in the same sector?Or, is there some other angle to it which can help both the brands generate incremental revenue? Please share your views#customerengagement #retailmarketing #marketinganalysis
