Main Terminal

The Ground Transportation & Parking level of the Main Terminal with entry doors 2, 4, and 6 offers Rental cars and a pet relief area. It has access to taxis and shared vans, as well as to the parking terminal and valet parking lot.

The Arrivals / Baggage Claim level houses the AeroTrain Platform with access to the AeroTrain, Z gates, and A & B gates, as well as the shuttle bus to D gates. To the right of the level is the International Arrivals Building. Services and amenities include ATMs, baggage claim carousels 1-15, Lost/Found, US Lounge, and access to the Silver Line Express at Door 4. Baggage claim carousel 1-6 is for United, carousel 7 us for Air Canada and Frontier Airlines, carousel 10 is for Aer Lingus, carousel 11-12 is for American Airlines and Etihad, carousel 13-14 is for Delta and Southwest, carousel 14 is for Alaska, and carousel 15 is for International Arrivals. There is a Nursing Room on this level next to the restrooms across from the baggage claim carousels 2, 6, 11, and 14. USO Lounge is also included directly opposite the baggage carousel 12.

The Security checkpoint level is reached by elevator/escalator and is divided into East & West security checkpoints. Thereafter passengers proceed to either to the Z gates (left); or take the walkway to gates A, B, or the shuttle to C or D gates.

The Aerotrain level between lower & upper levels is reached by elevator/ escalator - serving A, B & C gates.

The Upper level is the Departure/Ticketing level housing check-in facilities, with separate East & West security checkpoints and TSA-Pre-check Enrollment centers leading to Z gates Z6-Z10, the passenger walkway to A & B gates and to the shuttle to D gates. International Currency Exchange services are made available on the East and West of this level on top of the escalators. Free charging stations can be found outside the International Arrivals doorway. You can find a Pet Relief Area at the opposite ends of this level. Other amenities and services include a CLEAR Security lane, gift shop, and an Information counter.

Concourse A

Concourse A has 32 gates labeled as Gates A1-32. Gates A1-A6 are for United Express.

This Concourse comes with various services and amenities. International Currency Exchange services are made available inside this Concourse at Gate A32. Directly opposite Gate A32 is the Washington Dulles International Airport Interfaith Chapel in Concourse A, welcoming all passengers. There is a Nursing Room inside Concourse A near Gate A20. There is also a Pet Relief Area included in this Concourse next to Gate A32, adjacent to the Virgin Atlantic Club. Concourse A comes with IAD Airport’s first Sleepbox Lounge which is situated on the Mezzanine level, between gates A6 and A14. Free charging stations can be found throughout the Concourse in many gate areas.

Concourse B

Concourse B has 45 gates labeled as Gates B35-79.

This Concourse comes with various services and amenities. Free charging stations can be found throughout the Concourse in many gate areas. There is a Kid’s Play Area inside Concourse B which can be found near Gate B70. There is a Nursing Room inside Concourse B near Gate B70. A smoking area is located directly opposite Gate B37 and adjacent to B73.

Concourse C

Concourse C has 30 gates labeled as Gates C1-30.

This Concourse comes with various services and amenities. International Currency Exchange services are made available inside this Concourse at Gate C8 and C12. Free charging stations can be found throughout the Concourse in many gate areas. There is a Nursing Room inside Concourse C near Gate C11. A smoking area is located directly opposite Gate C2.

Concourse D

Concourse D has 32 gates labeled as Gates D1-32.

This Concourse comes with various services and amenities. International Currency Exchange services are made available inside this Concourse at Gate D16. There is a Nursing Room inside Concourse D near Gate D1. Free charging stations can be found throughout the Concourse in many gate areas. There is also a Pet Relief Area included in this Concourse directly opposite from the Gate D1 and near ‘&pizza.’ A smoking area is located directly opposite Gate D30.

Food, Shops & Amenities

There are many options for shopping and dining around IAD airport. Some notable shops and restaurants include Dulles Gourmet Market and Washingtonian Newsstand at baggage claim 14 and 13 respectively, inside the Main Terminal; Dunkin’ Donuts and Subway at the Z gates / South Finger; The Firkin' & Fox at Gate A3 and Burberry at Gate A32 in Concourse A; Wendy’s at Gate B45 and L’Occitane at Gate B37 in Concourse B; Au Bon Pain at Gate C14 and Hudson Newsstand at Gate C28 in Concourse C; and Bistro Atelier at Gate D14 and Forbes Newsstand at Gate D20. Security Checkpoints

The security checkpoints at the IAD airport are monitored by the Federal TSA - Transportation Security Administration. Only passengers possessing tickets are allowed to proceed beyond any of the security checkpoints. All security checkpoints provide access to the concourses and airplane gates.

Airline Lounges

There are several airline lounges located throughout Washington Dulles International Airport. The location and operating hours of each one of these are listed as follows:

  1. Air France Lounge - Concourse A, adjacent to Gate A19
  2. Etihad - Concourse A, adjacent to Gates A14 and A16
  3. Lufthansa - Concourse A, adjacent to Gates B49 and B51
  4. Virgin Atlantic - Concourse A, adjacent to Gate A32
  5. British Airways - Directly opposite the B Gates AeroTrain station
  6. Turkish Airlines - Concourse B, adjacent to Gate B43 (8:30 am - 10:00 pm, except Tuesday)
  7. United Airlines - Concourse C, right next to Gates C3, C7, C17, and D8

International Arrivals & Transfers

International Arrivals and Transfers are monitored by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Expedited Entry is granted to low-risk passengers and members of the Global Entry Program via two self-service kiosks available at the airport.

The International Arrivals Building of the IAD Airport is located inside the Main Terminal near the baggage claim carousel 15 exclusively for International Arrivals. The doors located between Baggage Claims 4 and 12 are for passengers who have already gone through the Custome’s clearance at the country of origin.

Terminal Tips

  • Arrive 90 minutes before flight time in case of domestic flights, and two hours before flight time in case of international flights.
  • There are shuttle services available at the airport connecting concourses and the main terminal
  • Print your boarding passes beforehand or use electronic boarding passes to save time
  • Get all information regarding baggage sizes, airline schedule, curbside pickup/dropoff, or wheelchairs, prior to reaching the airport
  • When travelling with pets or other animals:
    • Review the airline policies beforehand
    • Use the pet relief areas if required. These are located inside the terminals and at the arrival/baggage claim levels
    • All pets are to remain inside the carries in the terminals, except for service animals

It is possible to walk the length of each midfield terminal building end-to-end (i.e., there are no barriers between A and B or between C and D), and there is an underground pedestrian walkway connects the main terminal to the A/B midfield terminal.
